Video: Kaia The Trail Dog is Faster Than You Are

Although Bryan Gregory shreds pretty hard and is the only rider shown, he’s not the star of this video–it’s his dog Kaia who steals the spotlight. Full throttle, with flowy style and Velcro traction, Kaia is the picture of grace and athleticism in this edit by Jonathan Kang of Foxwood Films.

About the author: Don Palermini

Chicago-born Don Palermini became a cycling-based life-form in the sixth grade after completing a family road bike tour of his home state. Three years later he bought his first mountain bike to help mitigate the city's pothole-strewn streets, and began exploring the region's unpaved roads and trails. Those rides sparked a much larger journey which includes all manner of bike racing, commuting, on- and off-road bike advocacy, and a 20-plus-year marketing career in the cycling industry that landed him at his current gig with Santa Cruz bicycles. Now residing in the San Francisco Bay Area, his four favorite words in the English language are "breakfast served all day," together in that order.

I also have a Border Collie who rides regularly with me, he never ceases to amaze me with his enthusiasm, love for the run and unbelievable athleticism, Kaia is a great example for why riding with a dog is a real treat and a great example of what a great trail dog a Border Collie makes.

Awesome video. I have a red heeler that goes with me on ever trail ride; even night riding and snow. Very athletic and can go 4 hours on all mountain here in western Maryland without a problem.

My blue healer was that way. Like the energizer bunny! She would also ride on my sit on top kayak and surf waves on the Oregon coast. Her ashes are by her picture behind me as I type. She was a great friend.

I’ve a Border Collie too, and an Australian Shepherd, both will just run as far as I can ride. I always find amazing how they just love to run, they don’t care where they are going as long as they can run, and that there is a swim at the end….

I once came across a border collie during high school cross country. We would run past a house near the school in the country and the dog would run with us for the rest of the workout, all the way back to the school. When we were done, the dog would cut through the woods and head back to join us the next day. I always loved running with that dog. Now I can see the next bike purchase I make will be a k9 brand with 4 legs!

I love this! The film captures the dog’s excitement speeding through the forest. You can clearly see how much fun Kaia is having. I have a 5 year old Australian Shepherd who I have ridden with. It’s a joy to have a dog with you. My dog tucks in right behind my rear wheel on quick descents and sticks like glue, Like a Border Collie, they are enthusiastic, energetic, and add a delight of camaraderie on the road trip to the TH as well as the ride itself.
