This video is the definition of “gone viral”. In just 4 days, Jeff Plassman’s POV footage of him getting taken out by Bambi has garnered over a millions views! Getting posted as a headline article on such mainstream sites as Yahoo will do that.
Turns out that besides being a mountain bike racer from Virginia, Jeff is also a fan of Mtbr.com and calls us one of his “everyday sites”! We had the chance to chat with Jeff about his experience, here is what he had to say:
Mtbr: First off, were you okay? No broken bones? Did you finish the race?
Jeff Plassman: I was OK, busted up elbow, and some bruising on leg and shoulder. I have had way worse…
I had to fix my stem (re-align) then I got back on my bike and finished the remaining 47 miles ~3 more hours, yes I finished.
Mtbr: Nice! You are a worthy mountain biker! What race was this? How recent?
Jeff Plassman: The race is: 2013 Monster Cross and Mountain Bike Race by Run Ride Race The race was this past weekend (Sun Feb 24th).
Mtbr: What kind of bike were you on and what kind of POV cam do you use?
Jeff Plassman: Giant XTC Carbon, GoPro HD Hero 2 mounted to my bars
Mtbr: What was the first thing that came to your mind as you realized you were going down because of this deer?
Jeff Plassman: Sh$t! 
Also, the deer was fine, basically it kicked off my front wheel and broke some spokes, it never even stopped. Plus, even though it looks like nobody cares, everyone asked me if I was OK and I said “yeah I’m fine.”

The Gold Standard
This is great footage of course but the gold standard is the Antelope Collision in Africa two years ago. Here it is again in full glory.
Does not fit the definition of attack. Looks painful though….
No, really, that deer is clearly angry and trying to inflict harm. You can see it in its eyes. It was a calculated attack. Mr. P is lucky to be alive.
Here in Emporia, KS a deer managed to find it’s way into a jewelery store on main street. After the deer wrecked the store it seen itself in a mirror and croaked. I know it has nothing to do with biking, but I bet it’d be awesome footage nonetheless.
I was in this race…didn’t hear about it until after…kind of a cool way to get your local race known around the world!
Did anyone check to see if the deer was okay?

That “almost” happened to me in an urban park commuting from home. Was racing a friend after I blew by him as he was stopped at the red light. Was riding somewhere near 25mph. Gravel spray actually got me in the cheek as it lept in front of me . Scary as heck, but obviously not for the same reason.
Did you get to keep the deer meat?
I once startled a moose feeding unseen in thick foliage next to the Keystone Trail, PC. I heard a grunt of fear as I approached and immediately plunged face first into the fly covered side of an adolescent moose, yuk! My barends were like horns and knocked the moose flat, so instead of attacking me, it thought I was after her and took off down the trail, thank goodness. Just bruised my knees on the bike frame, glad it wasn’t a bull!
The deer is a single Speeder. Therefore it is angry and attacks geared riders…

The term “attacks” being used here is stupid. Do you attack someone you bump into at the supermarket? He got knocked over my a frightened deer trying to flee the area, not attacked!
