X-Fusion/ Intense at the US OPEN

News

X-Fusion/ Intense attended the 2009 US Open of Mountain Biking last weekend and had a very eventful weekend. There were lots of highs and lows this weekend. One of the lows being Ryan Condrashoff, one of the team leaders suffered a crash in DH practice leaving him with a busted collarbone and a wrist that needs some attention as well. We all wish him a speedy recovery so he can get back on his bike and continue on with his so far successful season.

Diablo introduced giant slalom this year to the venue and both John Hauer and Ryan Condrashoff qualified for the top 20 pro main event. Ryan seeded 11th and John 19th. The track was simplistic, but loose and very fast. Unfortunately Ryan was not able to compete in the final, but John showed up to better his qualifying spot and move into the 14th position. Even though the course lacked technical features the racing was very intense and times were close. Spots were determined by hundredths of a second.

For DH after some unlucky runs and injury, our kewi star Kieran Bennett was the only person competing in the pro men’s final. After practice was over the skies decided to darken and it began to dump rain. Kieran made a last minute move to switch to Intense Intruder tires and it paid off. He put together a good race run and ended up just one spot out of the top ten, 11th.

The day after the race we got to hang around and ride the whole mountain. The team spent a lot of time riding their short travel bikes, since the mountain has so many great jump trails that are almost effortless to ride. Kieran Bennett was cracking huge whips on every chance he got and Theo Dilworth was there to capture all the fun on his camera so check out the video!
