Yakima Comes Along for the Ride as Series Sponsor for 2012 New Belgium Urban Assault Ride
Series celebrates bikes through a team race challenge in ten cities
Beaverton, OR – March 19, 2012 – The New Belgium Urban Assault Ride™ is back for 2012, and Yakima – the innovation leader in cargo solutions – is on board as a sponsor for the series, which makes stops in ten US cities from February through August.
The Urban Assault Ride, now in its ninth year, is a fun bike-based timed race that sends teams to checkpoints around the host city. Participants must complete an obstacle course challenge at each stop, and the team that completes all the checkpoints in the shortest amount of time wins.
The Yakima checkpoint challenge at each race is dubbed ‘Yakima Chopsticks.’ Pairs of riders hold the ends of Yakima crossbars, balancing a ball on top. Then, without dropping the ball, they have to navigate through a course, stepping over and under hurdles and flags.
“The Urban Assault Ride is an awesome cycling event that celebrates biking in a unique way,” said Ashley Williams, Yakima Marketing Manager. “Unlike other serious bike races, anyone can grab a bike and a partner and take part in the fun. We’re excited to support the series.”
