2012 Post Office Jump Jam Photos

2012 Post Office Jump Jam Action

The Post Office Jump Jam is an informal event where all the dirt jumpers in the Monterey / Santa Cruz area for the Sea Otter Classic show up the day after, polish up the jumps and then spend the day one-upping each other. For as long as I can remember there’s been a jump jam in one form or another immediately after Sea Otter and it appears to have found a permanent home at the Post Office jumps in Aptos, California. Every year at Sea Otter, someone asks me if I’m going to the jump jam and every year I say no, I’ve got to get back to the office. Except this year. For the first time my Mtbr masters actually asked me to go cover the jump jam. How could I say no?

The 2012 Post Office Jump Jam Lineup

Since I’d never been to the Post Office Jump Jam, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Since everyone was worn out from Sea Otter, I figured I didn’t really need to be there early and I showed up at about 10:30 and found a few guys out with shovels and hose. As new riders showed up, they grabbed shovels, picks and brooms and all worked to get the jumps in perfect shape. At about noon the guys all lined up and started warming up on a smaller line and then moved over to the top of the main hill to start throwing down. Things started slow but by the end of the afternoon, riders were throwing all kinds of tricks. I’m no good at remembering or identifying trick names but check out the photos below to see some of what went down.

Looking back through the photos after the event, I found my favorite trick and photos were of Nukeproof sponsored rider, Jack Fogelquist. This kid has great style and manhandles the hell out of his bike. Below, I’ve posted a couple of photos of Fogelquist, followed by a whole gallery of images from the jump jam. I was super psyched to check out the Post Office Jump Jam this year and hope I get to shoot it again next year.
