Shimano had its new XT Di2 drivetrain on hand for customers to play with. A lucky few also had the opportunity to ride the new product with professional racers Jill Kintner and Bryn Atkinson.
Speaking of electronic shifting, ProShift was showing off a new controller that can auto-shift for you based on speed, cadence, power, and user preference. The product is only available for the road market now, but they’ve been experimenting with a mountain bike version.
Way back in 2012, Phil Wood created this V10 Fatbike. It never made it into production, but the concept was a huge draw to their booth. After a long hiatus, the monster is back. This time, however, it’s sporting a motor.
Electric bikes like the Phil Wood fatbike put down an immense amount of torque. Onyx believes that standard hubs can’t take the load (or the weight), so they’ve developed a prototype hub for e-bike use that has burlier internals and is claimed to be 4x stronger.
They also had several new freehub bodies available for their hubs, including options for Shimano road, single speed, and XD drivers. They were also showing their new patent pending aluminum freehub body with U-shaped steel inserts (pictured far right), that are designed to reduce wear and prevent galvanization.
Knight Wheels is a small outfit that produces a wide range of carbon wheels. They’ve been producing a super wide 27.5” enduro rim for some time, but just released a new 29” version. This rim has a 30mm internal width (beer for scale) and will retail for around $700 when it begins shipping November 1.
100% got its start manufacturing goggles, but their product catalog has since expanded to include gloves, helmets, and apparel. At Outdoor Demo, they were showing off two new sunglasses. We’ll share more from them later this week when we head inside.
The best thing about Ryders Eyewear is the permanent anti-fog coating that is baked into their lenses. This coating is said to be military grade and performs exceptionally well in all conditions. For this year, they’ve taken that technology and boosted it by a color boosting tint and fast acting photochromic transition. They’re calling this new line of lenses Fyre. Retail for the new models is between $220-240. Their normal glasses start around $150.
Every year Camelbak sets up a watering station to keep riders hydrated. This year, they brought it in by the truckload. How epic is this rig? And if you stop by their booth, you can trade in your old bladder for a brand new one. Thanks!
Camelbak also had an epic kiddie pool, which was an absolute life saver in the heat.
