Despite an injury-filled season that sidelined her for the Olympics, a mud-soaked Annika Langvad overcame all odds – including a puncture in the last 6k and a crash on the final downhill stretch – to win her 2nd consecutive UCI Elite Women’s Marathon World Championship title!
She fought to the finish aboard her SLM – painted in the colors of the Danish flag– crossed the line 44 seconds ahead of Norway’s Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjaa, and rightfully claimed her spot at the top of the podium for the 2nd year in a row.
“This race and victory is more than I ever dreamt about and thought possible. To be able to make such a comeback…Going through so much frustration, despair, and disappointment really got outweighed this Sunday,” said Langvad.
She added, “I rode my Fuji 26″ hardtail, which I was supposed to ride for the Olympic Games. Grabbing a world champion title with it instead is awesome compensation.”
