With Winter approaching fast, it’s a good time to prep your bike for abuse. The next time you run through your regular maintenance routine, consider blocking out an extra hour or two (plus some beer) to clean and regrease everything.
On most high-end builds, your headset, bottom bracket, and some suspension pivots will use sealed bearings. However, adding a fresh layer of grease is a good first line of defense against corrosion. Anyone who’s ridden in the UK or the PNW knows just how quickly headsets can seize.
Other tips include greasing your seat post to help prevent water from entering the frame, installing new tires, and adjusting your tire pressure. To learn more about prepping these components, check out this tutorial from Global Mountain Bike Network.
