A few years ago, this light was called the Seca 700 at 700 lumens. Then it moved to 900 then 1400 more than a year ago. This year it stays at Seca 1400 at 1400 lumens. It seems that Light and Motion has focused most of its efforts in their commuter-ready 'Urban' series.
It's still a very capable light as it good features, ergonomics and beam pattern. The beam pattern is tightly controlled so that more of the light hits the ground and the periphery of the trail. It's a big, bright beam pattern that doesn't wildly exaggerate its lumens claims.
But the light has aged and its $700 price is now considered very expensive for its lumen output. Also, the ergonomics are now old school as many high end lights are now self-contained or available with stem-mounted batteries.
Specifications:
Handlebar mounting is done with a rubber strap that is pulled snug then cinched down like a belt. The mount has been padded with grippy rubber to improve the grip of the light on the bar during very rocky descents. The light can be aimed left to right as well. Helmet mounting is available with the battery carried in a backpack.

MTBR Light Meter Measurements:
This light measured 110 lux on our ambient light measurement facility. This is low in comparison to the the Exposure Six Pack and Lupine Betty II but the Seca beam pattern is very useable and is one of the best on the trail.

Strengths:
The Seca 1400 is a good light but it really shows the rapid evolution of the competition. Other lights have gotten a lot brighter and cheaper.

Light Meter Charts and Comparison Table »
Strengths:
- Such an even and beautiful beam pattern. It's very wide and the 1400 lumen model is finally enough light for this beam.
- Light is not wasted on the top where it usually doesn't reflect off anything
- Excellent battery and charger
- Mount has been improved to prevent slipping
- Extra long cable and huge connector is not ideal
- Light head though well designed does feel as robust as the high end competition
- $700 is pricey in this new market of LED lights. Price should have been lowered.
- Design has aged as the competition has caught up
The Seca 1400 is a good light but it really shows the rapid evolution of the competition. Other lights have gotten a lot brighter and cheaper.
