MTBR & RoadBikeReview
Gregg Kato studied journalism and broadcasting in college while working many different jobs including deejaying, driving a forklift and building web sites (not all at the same time). Kato has been the Site Manager of Mtbr.com for over 12 years and enjoys riding local Santa Cruz trails. Besides being an avid mountain biker, he is also a motorcycle fanatic. Two wheels, one Passion.
Twain Mein has been a fan of MTBR & RoadBikeReview since 1996. After meeting Francis, he became fascinated with the technology and gear aspect of cycling and became one of our first product reviewers. Twain has been doing triathlons since 1987 and was ranked in the Top 50 U.S. National Age Group in 2012. He’s recently been learning swimming tips from his 10 year-old daughter who has way more natural talent.
Jeff Lenosky helped pioneer urban mountain biking, fusing his background in BMX and observed trials, then taking it to the streets. Featured in dozens of mountain bike movies, the New Jersey native travels constantly doing trials demos at bike shops, festivals and races, and even jumping in the occasional cross country or enduro race.
Kurt Gensheimer thinks the bicycle is man’s most perfect invention. He firmly believes ‘singlespeed’ is a compound word. He sometimes wears a disco ball helmet. He is also known as Genshammer. He is a Gemini and sleeps outside in a hammock.
Kristen Gross loves bikes, all sorts, and above all, XC mountain bikes. She races in the pro category and gets a lot of joy from teaching others the way of the trail as a mountain bike skills instructor—especially women who are just discovering cycling. She is a USAC-certified coach, and she runs her own freelance writing business based in Carlsbad, Calif. You’ll find her either writing or riding, bringing over 10 years experience to both. Why does she ride? To offset her addiction to Coca Cola and Lay’s Potato Chips.
MTBR contributor Sonya Looney is a world-class ultra endurance mountain bike racer. She has competed in the hardest international stage races in the world, picking up several wins, including three US 24 hour national championships. Sonya relies on her innate positive energy, big smile and love for life to help recover from the suffering she endures when racing. Well that and some choice microbrews and red wine.
A veteran of the both the bike and hospitality industries contributor Emily Neuman can spin a tale, then mix a drink to go along with it. Though she only found Cycling (hey, some people capitalize god) in the past few years, her quiver of bicycles reflects an enthusiastic gusto for the sport/culture/funness. Road, mountain, cross, commute—it doesn’t matter. Emily on a bike is a rolling smile that emits squeaks of joy and excitement.
Lee Lau calls North Vancouver and Whistler BC home. He's had over 15 years experience riding bikes mainly in western North America and in Europe. Unlike many people who learned to ride bikes on North Shore trails, he actually enjoys riding (and sometimes bushwhacking) uphill.
