Quad Lock iPhone Bike Mount System

Gear Pro Reviews

The ever burgeoning smartphone bike mount systems are proliferating due to increasing mobile GPS apps usage by mountain bikers, roadies and triathletes. The Quad Lock iPhone bike mounting system from Annex Products of Melbourne, Australia, is an interesting and innovate product, that uses a unique connection system between the mount and smartphone case.

The Quad Lock iPhone Universal Mounting System, in its $69.95 Deluxe Kit variant (as tested), includes a protective case, a bike mounting system and two wall mounts. They also make simpler kit, which has just the case and wall mounts for $39.95.

The Deluxe Kit includes:

  • 1 Quad Lock Case for iPhone 4/4S – Polycarbonate hardcase
  • 2 Quad Lock Wall Mounts – 3M self adhesive
  • Quad Lock Bike Mount PRO
  • Mounting hardware (4 o-rings and 2 zip ties)
  • 3 Instruction booklets

The tough polycarbonate case for the system was moderately thin, and all the buttons were easily accessible, and although it offered a good degree of robustness, it’s not water or dust proof. It was easy to insert the phone into the case, but I found it difficult to remove, and never quite found the best method or trick to make extraction simpler? The back side of the case has the Quad Lock connection interface, which creates a bubbled center section, so the phone wasn’t stable when it was lying on its back if any edge was tapped. The case doesn’t have a screen cover, so it really needs a protector installed to prevent any damage to your phone in adverse outdoor conditions, though I ran mine without any ill effects.

My husband likes this case for riding his bike. He had zagg invisible skin on the phone but couldn’t get the case on with the back protected. Once he removed that the case fit. But like the review says he couldn’t get the case back off. He found the case very slippery and so he used the previously removed invisible skin, cut it down and added it to the back and sides. The case works good, but expensive

Hey Chris, the Rokform doesn’t actually lock on the mount like the Quad Lock does with its dual stage mechanism. If you bumped the Rokform while riding it would fall off and then its bye bye iPhone!

I´m very happy with my Quad Lock Kit. During my purchase I got a 10% promo discount: http://quadlock.refr.cc/DF9PSG8.

I planned to use the case just for rides, but I’m now using it full-time. Customer service has been awesome, too. I skipped over the instructions at first so didn’t realize how to release the case from the bike mount — blue ring on the neck has to be pushed down, a very clever safety mechanism — and broke one of the corners right away. My own fault, but customer service sent me a replacement right away, at no cost. I’m very impressed.

This is a nice case, but looks more like for city biking. If you want real protection combined with best usability, like me for the trail, I recommend considering this mount: http://www.bike2power.com/bikeconsole-iphone-5-waterproof-bicycle-mount.html
Rode it, tried it, and highly recommend it!
