Vee Tire has introduced a series of three new enduro/all-mountain tires designed with the help of former BMX and downhill world champion Mike King called the Crown Series. Not exactly a household name as tire manufacturers go, Vee has manufactured a well-respected line of OEM and value tires for years and recently began to take their offerings upmarket first with fatbike tires and now the Crown series.

The wheel-specific Vee Tire Crown F (left) and Crown R (right) are premium offerings from the venerable rubber company.

Available in 27.5- and 29-inch versions, the Crowns and are front- and rear-specific, with a broad, shouldered, widely-spaced knob pattern on the front, and a tighter, narrower rear pattern for better rolling. A third option tire, the Crown Gem, is available for medium to hard-pack conditions.

The Crown F features widely-spaced knobs and wide shoulders for grip when leaned over.

The rear-specific Crown R is slightly narrower than the front and features tightly-spaced knobs for less rolling resistance.

All three models—the Crown F, Crown R and Crown Gem—are available in Vee’s long-wearing Dual Compound, or more grippy Stickee Compound. Vee says you can run the tires either with tubes, or using sealant for tubeless set-ups.

The tires start at $55 each and should be available in November.

Those rides sparked a much larger journey which includes all manner of bike racing, commuting, on- and off-road bike advocacy, and a 20-plus-year marketing career in the cycling industry that landed him at his current gig with Santa Cruz bicycles. These look interesting. Curious if they will avoid the knobs easily coming off which seemed to plague the vee’s trail taker tire.

I would not look at a tire less than 2.35 Sorry they look good but very Ikon-ish. I ride alot of rocks and like volume and sidewall protection. Maxxis Ardent 2.4 EXO ftw!
If I rode somewhere else possibly.

Rear looks like an Ikon with Minion DHF side knobs
    Front looks very ardent race-ish

    But… 120TPI for AM tyres?
