At the high end of the market, folks like having options with their component selections. It adds a personalized touch and optimizes the bike for the riders style and terrain. Specialized is joining the bike customizing arena with its Build Your Dream Stumpjumper program now available on its website.
It’s a 6-step process starting with choosing wheelsize, color then picking build kits and suspension.
It’s a program in its infancy that is neither pioneering or innovative. There are very limited options compared to the competition and there are no photos mock-ups or weights on the completed bike. And lower cost aluminum frames are not an option. The process ends with a total price and instructions to print the summary sheet and taking it to the local dealer and waiting 60 days for delivery.
But, it is a sign of things to come obviously as more bikes and more features will surely be added to this program. It’s definitely a step in the right direction as folks can optimize the wheels, drivetrain or suspension on a set budget.
