SAN FRANCISCO, December 1, 2009 – Timbuk2, the San Francisco-based retailer and pioneer of the messenger bag, unveiled a new (PRODUCT)RED™ Special Edition classic messenger bag available on December 1, World AIDS Day, for the holiday season. (RED)™ gives shoppers a way to give stylish holiday gifts that give back at the same time. As a proud Special Edition Partner of (PRODUCT)RED, Timbuk2 will contribute 5% of profits of all (TIMBUK2)RED Special Edition bags to the Global Fund to help eliminate AIDS in Africa.
The design team at Timbuk2 was challenged to create not only a symbol for the (PRODUCT)RED cause, but also the ideal bag to hold all other 2009 holiday (PRODUCT)RED products, including an Apple iPod nano, Converse Chuck Taylors, and Dell Inspirion Mini 10v., to name a few. After several creative brainstorms, the Timbuk2 design team developed the ultimate medium-sized, Classic Messenger bag, complete with a red racing stripe for optimal branded style.
“It’s an honor to be chosen as the iconic bag for such a powerful worldwide cause,” says Kevin McSpadden, Chief Marketing Officer at Timbuk2. “Timbuk2 is proud to be a (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition partner and we encourage our brand loyalists to help us save lives.”
Rooted in the nomadic culture of bike messengers and urban people on the go, Timbuk2 built a Special Edition bag exclusively for (PRODUCT)RED that focuses on style, function and duration. The bag is $95 and will be available in the (RED) holiday pop-up stores in cities around the world, including New York, San Francisco, Tokyo, and London and online until supplies last at www.timbuk2.com/red beginning December 1.
Timbuk2 is a San Francisco-based company that pioneered the messenger bag. Born and bred in 1989 in a San Francisco garage by a bike messenger with an old sewing machine, Timbuk2 has been building bags and accessories for urban adventurers with a simple philosophy – create good-looking, durable bags you can truly make your own. They’re sold at specialty retailers and online at www.Timbuk2.com.
