Whistler, BC-based Dirt Series Mountain Bike Camps announced today that Trek Bicycles has signed a two-year title sponsorship extension with the company. The women-focused series, which travels to several locations throughout the western US and Canada giving weekend-long mountain bike training sessions, will feature a variety of Trek Bikes for both coach use and camper demos, including the Lush SL 29, Remedy 9 29, Remedy 9 and 9.8 27.5, Slash 8 and 9 and the Session 88.

According to Trek Dirt Series Founder Candace Shadley, the camps are not only benefical to campers, but a boon to sponsors and local shops alike.

“The program gets people super excited about mountain biking and we have an amazing selection of bikes from the single track trail, technical trail, and gravity line ups, and something in every wheel size too,” said Shadley. “Trek Dirt Series participants bought an average of 70 new Trek bikes from their local shops in each of the last two years after demos at our camps, and that’s just the ones we can track!”

The news of the sponsorship extension comes just days before registration for 2014 camps opens on February 1. It’s not uncommon for camps to sell out quickly, according to Shadley, particularly ones in mounstain bike destinations like Whistler, BC, Santa Cruz, Calif., and Hood River, Ore. The Trek Dirt Series includes 19 total camp weekends, most of which are women-only, but three of which are co-ed.

Chicago-born Don Palermini became a cycling-based life-form in the sixth grade after completing a family road bike tour of his home state. Three years later he bought his first mountain bike to help mitigate the city's pothole-strewn streets, and began exploring the region's unpaved roads and trails. Those rides sparked a much larger journey which includes all manner of bike racing, commuting, on- and off-road bike advocacy, and a 20-plus-year marketing career in the cycling industry that landed him at his current gig with Santa Cruz bicycles. Now residing in the San Francisco Bay Area, his four favorite words in the English language are "breakfast served all day," together in that order.
