UK DH Ripper Joe Smith Returns To the Kona Factory DH Team

Joe Smith’s plan for next year is to keep doing what he’s always been doing-just a little bit faster. Training and staying in the right mindset is also key for this super talented racer from Wales. Over the winter Joe’s been working with a personal trainer, focused on gaining strength and flexibility. A pre-season training trip to Spain along with some track building of his own, and Joe plans to be ready for the rigorous strains of World Cup racing. Things have been on the up and up with a successful season of world cup racing, moving up the ranks with a couple top 20 finishes and top 15 qualifiers in 2009 as well as winning the Welsh championship.

“It’s great to be part of the Kona team again for the 2010 season,” says the 19 year-old Smith from his home in Montgomery mid Wales. “With 2009 being my best season to date, I’m really looking forward to seeing what I can do on this year’s World Cup tracks. The new Stab has been refined and is looking better than ever; not to mention we’re using the best equipment available with Shimano, RockShox, Easton wheels, FSA and Maxxis. It’s looking like the coming season is definitely going to be one to remember.”

Smith will be training and racing the WC this year alongside newcomer and Australian Kona Team rider, Josh Button. Josh has been proving himself down-under with great results. We’re expecting good things from Josh and Joe this year riding their factory team Stabs. They’re champions with charisma. Approachable world-class athletes deeply committed to the beauty of going fast on a bike. From World Cup cross-country courses to downtown bike paths, at Kona, the members of our 2010 Factory Team represent a true reflection of our deep racing roots and general infatuation with all things bicycle. Keep your eyes on the front of the pack this season. And don’t be afraid to say hi. Our riders are as nice as they are fast. Damn nice, in other words.
