Video: Diamondback’s Eric Porter rides the Mega Cavern

A quick edit of Eric Porter's own private session riding the Mega Underground Bike Park

A couple of weeks ago we covered the Grand Opening of the Mega Underground Bike Park in Louisville, Kentucky. There was a ton of interest in this new and unique riding venue. The attraction has hit major news stations like USA Today, ABC News and NPR with much interest.

Lucky for us, Diamondback’s own Eric Porter rode the Mega Cavern since he is a Louisville native. There’s even some shots of Eric taking his sons Milo and Owen for a spin.

If you read our previous article, there has been some discussion (in the comments section) about just how rider friendly the attraction is and whether the pricing structure and trail variety is what it seems. Until we can get out there ourselves to verify, we will just let the locals give us their side.

Official video description

“Recently, Diamondback Team rider Eric Porter ventured east to his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky to check out the insanely cool Mega Cavern. The Mega Cavern is mega, indeed. Boasting 320,000 square feet of space, the Cavern houses 45 trails, jump lines, pump tracks and more!”

pretty cool, except I am not going to drive over 6 hours to do some thing that will put me in the hospital. I am tired of seeing jump and crazy hard to do videos of this place! What does it have for the masses? can I ride single track there? how much of regular single track riding do they have if any?

  • ben says:

I agree. I don’t care about big jumps I cannot/will not do… what about the singletrack?!!

  • j says:

I disagree with these comments. Singletrack in a cave !? The jumps are the whole point…I am sure they have chill pumps and jumps to get folks started on the basics. Looks fun!

  • Cooper says:

Yes, the Mega cavern has single track trails too. However, the most impressive, fun and video-worthy parts of this park are the jump courses. I’m not sure of the trail mileage as you can really mix up your routes for decent variety/length, but after a couple of hours of lapping, you’ve pretty much exhausted the options…and then it’s time to start playing around on the obstacles and/or the jumps (I don’t jump, just roll them like a big dork, lol).

It is interesting that in the early part of the video he always lands on his front wheel first.
This seems scary to me. Is this normal?
