Video: Santa Cruz Carbon Chameleon – pure genius

There have been launch videos before but none that show the culture club of a company and the birth of a bike as well as this one.

Video

The Santa Cruz carbon Chameloeon aka ‘tin lizard’ has ascended the evolutionary ladder and is now a fully-imagined carbon fiber creature. It’s Darwinism in action.

We took the fun-loving, shreddy spirit and adjustability of the beloved aluminum Chameleon but evolved it into a lighter, faster, more advanced species. It’s a do-it-all hardtail that is as happy making the most of backyard booter (mis)adventures as it is fully-loaded with camp gear and a color-matched dangle mug.

Stunning lines complement the modern geometry of the versatile Chameleon.

Speaking of color-matched, the custom blue Hope hubs and headset on the SE kit make this reptile stand out from the crowd. Two bottle cage mounts, including a triple-bolt cargo cage mount under the downtube mean you can escape from the crowds, too. The Carbon Chameleon changes to suit its environment. Twenty-niner or 27.5+, geared or single-speed, this adaptable hardtail utilizes a suite of simple, swappable dropouts to convert it from aggro trail charger to single-speed racer to husky bikepacking mule, or anything in between.

The most versatile bike in our range ticks even more boxes.

Could this be a general business strategy at Santa Cruz to make all their models available in carbon and aluminum, with a move to eventually move their entire line up to Carbon C and Carbon CC only? Except the Jackal. There is zero market for Carbon DJ bike.

One thing got my curiosity this morning, how often does Mike’s Bike email arrived at my inbox ahead of Santa Cruz’s own official launch announcement? Infact, I still have not received an official launch announcement from Santa Cruz. Speculation is that this is a teaser to something greater and fore-coming? 2nd generation Hightower/Hightower LT? Now if a Nomad 29 or VP-Free 29 shows up, that would be hot news.

I get to produce a lot of my own videos & watch others for marketing purposes. And Santa Cruz nailed it. If you can only imagine the effort and time they put into this video. Much better than what I’ve seen the Fortune 500 companies create. No doubt it’s going to create a lot of buzz for the Chameleon. Santa Cruz people have some real talent and are obviously very passionate about what they build. After I watched it, first thing I did was look up one of the local Santa Cruz dealers so I could demo one. That’s what good marketing is all about.
